There are rumors that Ayo Edebiri will play the lead in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean movie.
It is rumored that the actress, who is well-known for her roles in Bottoms and The Bear, will take Johnny Depp’s place as the franchise’s director.
It follows a great deal of turmoil about the franchise’s future after Depp cut ties with Disney due to the latter’s lack of backing during his defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard.
“If Disney came to you with $300 million and a million alpacas, nothing on this earth would get you to go back and work with Disney on a Pirates of the Caribbean film?” was the question posed to the actor previously.
Depp answered, “That’s accurate.”
The Hollywood Reporter reported in 2020 that Christina Hodson and Margot Robbie were collaborating to usher in a new chapter for the franchise.
“A long time ago, we were working on an idea to tell a different kind of story that was somewhat led by women, but not entirely female-led, which we thought would have been really cool,” Robbie said of the project.
It wasn’t long-lasting, though, as Robbie concluded, “But I guess they don’t want to do it.”
Jerry Bruckheimer, the producer of Pirates, later stated that the movie was still scheduled to be made.
For me, it appears to be alive. For Disney, it’s alive,” he stated to The Sun.
“She was probably frustrated that it didn’t go first, but given her hectic schedule, it could be a good thing to push this back a little. We think we can succeed. It’s a really compelling tale.
And it appears that Bruckheimer might be right because Ayo Edebiri is being considered to be the star of the sixth installment of the franchise, according to sites like News.com.au and The Hollywood Handle.
